Beatles “I Want To Hold Your Hand” 1964 RIAA 45 White Matte Record Award

Two words.  One song.

And music changed forever…

The Beatles!

“I Want To Hold Your Hand”

Already a growing phenomena in Europe, The Beatles released “I Want To Hold Your Hand‘ in the United States in December 1963. It became their first #1 hit on February 1, 1964 and two days later on February 3, it was certified gold by the RIAA.

The rest, as they say … is music history.

This presentation is of special interest to record award collectors because it is considered the first RIAA 45 White Matte. The coin (medallion) you see glued to the presentation plate was probably left over from those used on plates of RIAA Walnut Plaques in the transition to the acid etched logos that were used the rest of the White Matte era.

Thanks to Brad Rogers who shared this spotlight award.

The backing paper and hanging have been replaced.
