The album and specifically the song “Cop Killer” coupled with its release on major label, Sire/Warner Bros., created a controversy that echoed all the way to the White House and the halls of Congress.

Ice-T founded the group and wrote most of the lyrics and guitarist Ernie C wrote the music.

Jeff Gold was in the music business at A&M records and then Warner Bros, where he was Creative Director when the “Cop Killer” controversy exploded.
