“Fronted by the Lizard King, surrounded by a virtual wall of sound that poured forth from 600 and 1000 watt amplifiers to engulf the audience in shock-wave patterns, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore led what might be called a secluded stage existence for three triumphal years. Then the defense crumbled. The raw, screaming vocals of Jim Morrison were silenced, first by an indecent exposure charge, then by death.” – The Encyclopedia of Pop, Rock and Soul

“Morrison Hotel” was The The Doors fifth album. Released in February of 1970, and certified gold by the RIAA on February 23, 1970, it reached a peak chart position of #4.

Here it is celebrated with an In-House Disc Award Ltd. (non-RIAA) award. (If it was an RIAA award it would have been in the white matte format you see here.) The label is a bit faded indicating it was displayed in a sunny office or conference room.

Stan Marshall became Electra Records National Sales Manager after more than a decade in the music business. His background included stints at Columbia, Kapp and his own company SRM Productions. The back has been re taped which indicates the award has been opened for some reason, but it doesn’t appear anything has been changed on the award.

To evaluate the authenticness and condition of any award it’s best to hold it in your hands, if that is not possible, photos of the front, plate and back are most useful.
