Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) “Eldorado” Gold RIAA LP Floater Record Award

“If the Beatles had taken “Sargent Pepper” on the road, they would have needed much the same line up, augmented with a full orchestra, as the Electric Light Orchestra.”  – Wikipedia

In the late 1960s, Roy Wood — guitarist, vocalist and songwriter of The Move — had an idea to form a new band that would use violins, cellos, string basses, horns and woodwinds to give their music a classical sound, taking rock music in the direction “that The Beatles had left off”. Jeff Lynne, was excited by the concept, and in January 1970, Lynne accepted Wood’s second invitation to join the band on the condition that they focus their energy on the new project.

Eldorado, the band’s fourth album, was a concept album about a daydreamer, and their first LP to be certified RIAA Gold (on May 5, 1976). The first single of the album, “Can’t Get It Out of My Head” (YouTube Video), became their first Billboard Top 10 hit. The album is celebrated here as a first presentation Floater award, the correct RIAA format from April 1975 until late 1980.
