Iron Butterfly “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” – A Curious (One Of A Kind?) – Authentic, First Presentation, RIAA White Matte LP Award

Iron Butterfly’s remarkable 1968 album “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” was recorded at Ultra-Sonic Recording Studios in Hempstead, Long Island (the story of its recording here), released in July, 1968. It was a musical and cultural phenomenon, became the first platinum album, has sold over 30 million copies, and certified RIAA Gold on 12/3/68.

Here you see it honored with two Authentic, First Presentation, RIAA White Matte LPs. Uniquely, one that is the standard 21 1/2″ H, versus the one shown here beside it which is 20″ H…Both have perfect provenance from the owner of the studio, who confirmed having them from 1969 when the album was certified…When I received the award it had two condition issues, but they were easy to repair by reattaching the label and replacing the glass…The label and disc are original and correct for the period, with the disc etched with 1,000,000 at 6 o’clock and AT (for Atlantic/Atco) at 3 o’clock in the trail off… The matte is correct for the period, with the looser weave you would expect (compared to the matte of a 1973 White Matte)…
