Led Zeppelin “Led Zeppelin” 1969 Gold RIAA White Matte LP

Drawing heavily on blues and amplified rock, Led Zeppelin became the most successful, influential and long lasting heavy metal pioneer. Their first album Led Zeppelin (also know as Volume 1) was released in January 1969, certified RIAA gold on 7/22/69, and reached a peak Billboard chart position of #10. Here you see it celebrated as an Authentic, RIAA, First Presentation, First-State, White Matte.

(On the inside glass, there is a white translucent spotting. I expect it had to do with something getting trapped in the award at the time it was made.)

This award is presented to Jimmy Page, the famed lead guitarist and founder of Led Zepplin. I have no provenance that it was actually his award, but none the less it is a rare artist presentation.

Two of the ways you can tell this is a Fist Presentation award is that the Atlantic label is correct for the period, and the stamper (gold record itself) has 1,000,000 etched in the trail off at 6 o’clock and an AT etched at 3 o’clock. This was common on Atlantic RIAA White Mattes of the period.

The backing paper and hanging are original making this a First-State award. The award manufacturer sticker, New York Frame & Picture Co., has the correct address for the period, on John Street.
