Prince “Purple Rain” Gold & Platinum BPI (British) LP Record Awards

Prince’s creative output and energy is nothing short of amazing. As I write this he is in the middle of a 21 night stand! at the Forum in Los Angeles.

“Purple Rain” was released in June of 1984, and certified gold AND platinum by the RIAA on the same date, 8/29/84. It spent 24 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard!

Here it is celebrated with BPI (British Phonographic Industry) awards that are Britain’s equivalent of the RIAA.

The size of the British market versus the United States led to BPI gold certification at 100,000 copies (vs. 500,000 in the US) and platinum certification at 300,000 units (vs. 1,000,000 in the US).

Steve Fargnoli was an artist manager and producer who’s artists included Prince, Earth Wind and Fire and Sinead O’Connor.

Framous Aluminum Frames made both awards and the backs are identical, including the plastic bag containing the wire hanging and nail for hanging.

To evaluate the authenticness and condition of any award it’s best to hold it in your hands, if that is not possible, photos of the front, plate and back are most useful.
