The Doors 1st Album Is A Classic! Here Honored With Another Classic – From Disc Awards Ltd.

Disc Award Ltd., manufactured gold and platinum record awards in Los Angeles from the late 50’s to the late 70’s. They were the most prolific, consistent, and valuable of all In-House awards (non RIAA). I’ve always thought with their simple square format, black frame, and wooden backs they were the classics of record awards.

The Doors self-titled first album was a classic itself (released in January 1967, and certified RIAA gold on 9/11/67), it’s been honored in many ways including this RIAA White Matte Award. But below you see it honored with an authentic Disc Award Ltd. gold LP. This award was presented to Larry Ray, who was Director of National Promotion at Electra Records, reporting directly to label owner Jac Holtzman. The Doors gave him the award personally for the work he did in making their first single “Light My Fire” #1 …

As added provenance for this award, Larry taped a picture of himself and Ray Manzarek on the back…

The classic Disc Award Ltd. dragon logo is etched at 4 o’clock on the trail off…
