1978 was a big year for short people … and Randy Newman.

Randy Newman "Little Criminals" 1978 Gold RIAA LP Floater Record Award

In October of 1977 Randy released his album Little Criminals which contained the single “Short People” (video). They both were certified gold on January 24, 1978, with the album peaking at #9 and the single at #2. This “Floater” award was the correct format from 1975 until late 1980.

This award is completely original and unopened (unopened is shorthand for the the parts inside are also all original). The sticker of award manufacturer Creative Glassics has fallen off, but you can see the outline it left in the lower right hand corner

I saw Randy Newman when he played in a little theater The Wadsworth in the VA center in Brentwood, CA. only a few miles from his house in Mandeville Canyon. It was a very home town audience for a local boy. Too bad it took little people to launch him. He had a loyal following early on.
