Bob Dylan “Blonde on Blonde” Gold 1966 RIAA LP White Matte record award

“Blonde on Blonde” completed the trilogy of rock albums that Bob Dylan recorded in 1965 and 1966, starting with Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited. Critics often rank Blonde on Blonde as one of the greatest albums of all time.  -Wikipedia

Released in May of 1966, certified RIAA gold on August 25, 1967, it reached a peak Billboard chart position of #9. This is an Authentic, First Presentation, Second-State, White Matte, presented to Bob Dylan…

There is no provenance that this was actually Dylan’s award, in fact if you look closely you’ll see two holes indicating it was screwed in place for security, most likely in a Columbia Records conference room, or executive office. Labels had awards made for just such purposes. None the less it is a rare artist presentation.

The matte, plate, disc, label, mini, and manufacturer sticker are correct for the period. What makes this a Second-State award are the wholes in the frame (mentioned above), the lack of original wire hanging, and new backing paper.

To evaluate the authenticness and condition of any award it’s best to hold it in your hands. If that’s not possible, photos of the full front, plate and back are most useful.
