In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) was a staple of radio airplay, and their albums were at the top of the charts. Cosmo’s Factory*, their fifth studio album, was released in July of 1970, certified RIAA Gold on 12/16/70, and reached #1 on Billboard.
This is an Authentic, RIAA Certified, First Presentation, White Matte, Second-State* award. *The backing paper and hanging have been changed and someone contacted me and said the frame and matte on this award are not original. To some this makes no difference. To me a First-State award is more valuable than a Second-State award for the simple reason that there are fewer of them (many early awards have been changed or needed repair) and as in other collectibles, original state, untouched, has more value (think coins or furniture). As to the question of how much more valuable, it’s hard to say. Value is in the eye of the beholder and rarity, and a CCR award like this is very rare (I’ve never seen another one).
* The name of the album comes from the warehouse in Berkeley where the band rehearsed early in their career. It was dubbed “The Factory” by drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford, because bandleader John Fogerty made them practice there almost every day.
