Don Henley “Dirty Laundry” RIAA Gold 45 Strip-Plate Record Award

The Eagles

Don Henley

“Dirty Laundry”, was Don Henley’s first and biggest solo hit. Released in October of 1982, certified RIAA Gold on March 28, 1983, it reached a peak Billboard chart position of #3.

Here it is celebrated with an Authentic, First Presentation, First-State Gold 45 RIAA Strip-Plate.

I call this award a Strip-Plate because the way the plate is attached, directly to the  matte, instead of on a pad which makes it appear to “float” as on Floaters.  Compare the Don Henley above, to a 1981 Pointer Sisters RIAA 45 here.  A reader has said  this award would be a 45 Floater (1975-1981 format), not a 45 Strip-Plate (1981-1985 format), that a Strip-Plate 45 presentation plate would have a vertical black line separating the RIAA logo from the presentation copy.  I don’t believe I’ve ever seen that kind of plate. If anyone has, please send me a photo and I’ll update the way this award is categorized. In any event there would be no affect on value, just in description. What do you think?

The award was presented to David Urso, head of promotion at Electra/Asylum Records. His Inscription offers insight to how this single, and singles of the period, were promoted and identified through friendly and involved radio.

The back is unopened and original (with the addition of the wire hanging).
