Meat Loaf “Bat Out Of Hell” was released in November 1977, certified gold on 5/22/78 and reached a peak chart position (Billboard Top Albums) of #14.
This RIAA award is a thirty three year old first presentation (correct format for date of certification), authentic (made by an RIAA approved award manufacturer), and original (unopened-all original parts), with condition issues…
The label has fallen off the disc due to some problem with the adhesive (happens sometimes) and the bottom of the frame has suffered water damage at some point during storage.
To improve its appearance it could be repaired or restored (using original correct parts for the period). In either case it would be worth something less than an all original unopened award.
If it was left in this condition it would also be worth something less, but it allows us some observations…
The bottom of the frame has sustained water damage and chips of paint have flaked off. If there is any lesson in this, it’s to avoid storage of awards on the ground in areas that might flood like a garage, basement, bathroom, kitchen or near a water heater.

In addition to flaking, below you can see the red primer used before the gold paint went on…
With the label off, there is an opportunity to view a gold plated nickel stamper that would have been appropriate for the period. A closer look at one o’clock on the trail off shows the number of the master which is not the same as the number on the label. It is rare when the gold disc is the same as the album.
Presented to John Jansen, who engineered and helped mix the album. “After several attempts by several people, John Jansen mixed the version of Paradise that is on the album. According to Meat Loaf, he, Jansen and Steinman mixed the title track.” -Wikipedia
The backing paper and hanging is original with a Creative Glassics sticker on the lower right and some water damage on the bottom left.

Hello, I recently came across an a framed gold record award just like this one, but presented to producer Todd Rundgren. It was found in a storage unit that was auctioned off. I’m having trouble finding a value for this item. I know that it would be difficult to determine the value of a one of a kind item like this, but you seem to be very knowledgable on the subject. Please email me when you have time. Thank you, David Tempo
