“I Honestly Love You” by Olivia Newton John was released in May 1974, certified gold on 10/9/74, and reached #1 on the charts. It became Olivia’s signature song…and won Grammy Awards for Female Pop Vocal Performance and Record of the Year.
MCA was a major label of the time.
This original, authentic, 1st presentation award also allows us to view a piece of white matte construction and how some awards were displayed. The holes and torn backing paper are also known as condition issues. Here they might be a plus…
First, the original backing paper, being torn away, shows clearly the small nails that held matte to frame in all white mattes. If you see clips, tacks or other fasteners, the award has been changed. Not necessarily bad by itself, but it’s a clue that it is no longer an award with all original components.
Second, the holes in the frame at the center top and bottom, indicate the award was screwed to a wall most likely at the record company, in a conference room or lobby. Awards screwed to walls facilitated public display and secured them from thieving hands (at least the snatch and grab type).
