Shooting stars, flashes of light … and one hit wonders, hold a special place in music and the history of gold records. This hit by R B Greaves was one of them. Here you see it celebrated with an Authentic, First Presentation, Second-State, RIAA 45 White Matte.
Take A Letter Maria was released in September 1969 reaching a peak Billboard chart position of #2. It tells of a man who has learned of his wife’s infidelity the night before, and dictates a letter of separation to his secratary Maria (then he asks Maria out to dinner!).
See R B Greaves perform the song here on YouTube.
On the trail-off, the 1,000,000 stamped at 6 o’clock and the AT at 3 o’clock were typical of Authentic Atlantic awards of the period. Atco was a lable under the Atlantic Umbrella.
I consider it Second-State because the backing paper has been changed.
